Code Monkey Like You

This is a great bit of Machinima created by Mike Spiff Booth using World of Warcraft graphics and a great Creative Commons licensed song from Jonathan Coulton. It’s a lonely/romantic ode to the socially frustrated nerd.

Videos like this one are one of the main reasons I love the Internet. Jonathan Coulton has a passion for creating music, so he creates new songs and posts them on his website. He uses the Creative Commons license so that people can enjoy and re-use his music for free. MikeBooth hears the song, he gets inspired, and creates a great video - releasing it on the ‘Net for everyone to enjoy. This sort of virtual collaboration is so freekin great!

People can get inspired, create, and share the things that interest them. That is the REAL power of the Internet.

Mad Skillz x 4

These 4 guys, c2c, are like 1 dj with 5 turntables and 8 freekin’ hands. Crazy mad synchronization, killer beats, and much practice. Looks like they have won the DMC turntable championships 4 times, and I can see why. Reminds me of a more restrained and focused version of the Invisble Skratch Picklz.

Slide

I have been searching for an easy way to make photo slide shows on my websites. Found it. It’s called Slide. Go figure.

I made the slideshow you see above in like 45 seconds from a set of my Flickr photos. Lots of options and goofy, graphical doo-dads to add if you are so inclined.

Dreamlines, by Leonardo Solaas, is a spiffy Javascript application that asks you for a keyword - then creates an ephemeral, dream-like image based on your word. I love the textures that it creates from the images that it finds.

Who is dreaming? The user, or the Internet itself? In a certain way, both. The program generates a personal moving picture, unique, unpredictable, and forever gone when it is finished, just like dreams. But that dream is made out of pieces taken from the subconscious of the whole net, gathered by some words of the user and the obscure logic of searching algorithms.
