The Deep
Deep Sea Creature from thedeepbook.org

Wow. These are some crazy lookin critters. People who are looking for alien life-forms need only to go deep into the ocean.

The Deep: The Extraordinary Creatures of the Abyss is a photo book By Claire Nouvian “Featuring 220 color photographs of deep ocean species, some photographed for the first time”. Absolutley amazing pictures. Some of these creatures look like they came from the mind of a sci-fi illustrator.

AutoPilotPatty Poppy has expanded her Gallery Tamrannoch onto an adjoining parcel in Caledon on Sea. The Sea Song Gallery is a beautiful spot full of original artwork that’s been created by Second Life residents. She changes the works on display once a month and holds opening events where you can meet some of the artists and mingle with like-minded art lovers.

This month’s display includes pieces by Katat0nik Pidgeon, 712 Ayres, Urban Arliss, Orange Tracy, and Beth Welles.

Demetri’s pie chart about procrastination
Demetri Martin Quotes

Demetri Martin is a Mad Genius! He’s got a great sort of geeky comedic style similar to Steven Wright or Mitch Hedberg. One-liners that sort of come at you sideways. Here are a few of my favorite Demetri Martin Quotes:

  • I never had to pluralize dildoes before. I don’t know if that’s right, looks like ‘dil does’. I hope I never have to again, like at a deposition or something. How many dildoes were there? I dunno, but I’m sore and I want to go home.
  • I think the worst time to have a heart attack is during a game of charades.
  • I wanna buy a bunch of hermit crabs and make them live together.
  • My computer beat me at chess, but then I beat him at kick-boxing.
  • Glitter is the herpes of craft supplies.
  • ‘Finger Puppet’ sounds ok as a noun.
  • You can say Thanks, and you can say Thanks a Million - but any number in between? uhuh.
  • I wanna put stickers on turtles. I don’t know why.
  • I’ve met many Chocoholics, but I aint never seen no Chocohol.
  • Hiking is just walking were it’s ok to pee.
Demetri Martin: Person

Here are some other sites where you can find more Demetri Martin Quotes:

  • IMDB has a great list of quotes. “Some jokes are short and elegant, like a mathematical proof or a midget in a ballgown.”
  • There a few Demetri Martin quotes in this collection. “Cotton balls is an example of something I would buy, but not want to have as a nickname. Cinnamon buns, on the other hand, is something I would buy and want to have as a nickname. Are you Cinnamon Buns? You bet your sweet ass I am.”
  • The Musings of an Overactive Mind appreciates a good Demetri joke, too. “When you have a fat friend there are no see-saws. Only catapults.”

Kitty Pidgin
LOLcatz grammar

I’ll have to admit I have spent more than a few hours looking at CatMacros, LOLcats, and the rest of those crazy captioned pics. Quite a fascinating study of Internet culture, not to mention frickin hilarious! Anil Dash has a great post about the grammar associated with these pics. I have often wondered what sort of rules one might be able to discover in these phrases and images.

Unfortunately, the evolution of these grammars online can be very difficult to track down; This kind of nascent web culture is generally frowned upon by Wikipedia (witness the deletion of the I’m in ur base article since the Ask MetaFilter thread just a few months ago) and there are no other sites designed to collect definitive collaborative reference material. It’s going to take time to document kitty pidgin with any degree of accuracy.

Anatomicaly Correct
Dream Anatomy1

The National Library of Medicine plays host to a fantastic exhibit of old anatomy drawings. Gorgeously rendered drawings and etchings depicting the human body in all of it’s gory glory. They include several interesting articles and even high resolution versions of most of the images.
