How-to use PloppSL

I’ve been having a lot of fun experimenting with the free sculpted prim creator called PloppSL. I noticed on the SL forums that some people are having trouble figuring out how to use the software. Not surprising since there is very little documentation and none of the buttons or features are labelled. So I decided to crate this tutorial and walk through the program showing what at the buttons do and how to turn your 2D drawings into 3D sculpties using PloppSL.

Hi Torley. Thanks!

I really like PloppSL, and I hope that the developers of the software (Impara) will continue working on the program.

This was my first video tutorial, but I do have plans to create more. I’m not much of a talker, but it’s not so bad when I am talking about something I know about and enjoy. I just need to make sure I don’t lapse into my normal sort of unexcited voice while recording. You do a great job with your tutorials of keeping some excitement in your voice. :)

PloppSL has been updated and is now available for Mac! They have also cleaned up a few bugs and will continue to improve the software.

Thanks to Imp Wish and the folks at Impara for providing this fun, free tool. Don’t forget to donate if you enjoy using PloppSL.

Thanks very much for this Vlad. I couldn’t figure out how to import a file into PloppSL.

Now all I need is an idea!

Must be patient. One step at a time.

First thanks for a great video tutorial. You were saying that the jpg images could be imported into a more advanced progam such as Wings3D. Could you elaborate a bit on the process to import jpg files into Wings3D? I’m stumped. Thanks.

stebbiro wrote on March 4th, 2008 at 2:24 am

Hi stebbiro.

What I was refering to there is that you could take the sculptmap image file that is generated by PloppSL and import it into something like wings3D for further 3D editing.

So you could start your object in PLoppSL, sketching out the rough shape, then export the sculptmap files from PloppSL. Then you could take that sculptmap image and import it into Wings3D, or another program that supports importing sculpties, and continue editing the shape.

woohoo!! Excellent tutorial, and I love that you see potential in something that is so “basic.” I think I’m going to have to give this a try!

Heya Vlad,
Great Tutorial. :-) was wondering if the textures turn out ok if U import that sculptie object and edit it with another program. Or do U have to tweak those up a bit too?
TIA,
Kev

Do you have any idea why, when I upload a plopp file to sl, it comes out jagged? Also, I cannjot import the files to Wings3D. If you could give me any tips, I would be grateful. Thank you for the introduction!

Данной информации, не сомневаюсь, и так вполне достаточно, чтобы сделать вывод, как не надо делать.
