Particle Poetry

Strawberry Holiday has been on a creative binge lately, building one really cool art installation after another. Her latest piece, Playing with Words, is a very cool piece that mixes words and space to spark the imagination. Beautiful curvy word-trees rest in a field of swaying text. The monochromatic textures put the emphasis on the words and also give the space a slightly retro-0dreamy feel. Check it out before the last word falls.

I was happy to see this bit of news this morning (via Massively): The Lindens are still working on Avatar Puppeteering. This will be a way to control and animate your Av in-world using a nifty simulated physics system . Sort of like having Poser or Qavimator available inside of second life. We’ll be able to make up our own poses and create gestural movements on the fly. Shiny.

Check out AvatarPuppeteering.com for more info and a few short videos.

There’s a very interested discussion going on in the LL forums about IP rights. The issue revolves around a new product that employs some very clever sculpted prim techniques, and whether or not the creator should be able to restrict the use of the techniques involved. This discussion balances on the edge of several important Second Life issues. Where does Intellectual Property end and technique begin?

WeGame is a video hosting service geared toward on-line games. Lots of user-created videos featuring games like World of Warcraft, Team Fortress 2, and of course Second Life. I’ve even got my own channel over there that features many of my SL videos. It’s  a lot of fun to browse around and see what other people are creating. Here are a few interesting videos I found while browsing tonight:

Saw this great tutorial on the LL forums today. Photo-sourcing a face skin: Start to finish.

Asuka Martin shows you step-by-step how to put your own face on your Second Life avatar using only two reference photos. He does a great job of explaining the steps he’s taking and the results are very nice. Definitely worth a look if you want to create a virtual you.
