Here’s a shiny tool that makes writing SL scripts as easy as dragging and dropping colored blocks! It’s a program called Scratch for Second Life created by Eric Rosenbaum. Instead of typing out confusing commands and symbols, you just drag a block into your program and change a number of text field. Check out the video above for examples or this short tutorial for more info. It doesn’t include every command or feature that you’ll find in LSL, but there’s plenty of commands and features to create useful, and fun, scripts.

I just found out about this program, via Massively, and haven’t had a chance to try it out yet - but it looks wonderful. Perfect for anyone intimidated by LSL or even more advanced coders who want to quickly snap together a script. I’ll report back when I’ve had time to experiment with Scratch.

Awesome, LSL has always given me problems but with this I think I’m Ready to give it another shot! Thanks for another awesome find Vlad!

It actually works pretty well, too. I gave it a quick go around this afternoon and made a simple script to control a butterfly that flits around a home position. The Quaternion math this involves has always given me headaches with regular LSL. :) It is missing many of LSL’s commands and features but it’s a great start and great way for anyone to get started with scripting. I think I will post a demonstration/tutorial video later this week.

Hee, Quartenions give EVERYONE headaches!

This looks like a wonderful tool to allow Joe and Jane Avatar to just make the usual simple things they want their creations to do. LSL is not a particularly hard language to learn (I learnt it, and I’m rather computer illiterate, to be honest). But the average person who just wants to have fun shouldn’t have to sit down for the requisite week before being able to just Have Fun. I think this creates an entry level for LSL that didn’t exist before.
