As a part of my efforts to help people find and use the Sculpty Maker object converter, I’ve created a new tutorial. This video covers the very basics of using Sculpty Maker. How to create the proper objects in zBrush, export them, convert, and upload to SL. Future tutorials will cover more advanced uses of SM, including textures, animation, and multiple object creations.

Blast from the Past
The problem I am seeming to have is that when I load up scuplty maker, choose the file then hit “Make Scuplty” The program freezes up. I’m not sure why

Amaya: Hmm without any details I can only guess that maybe you are trying to convert an object that didn’t start out as one of the zBrush primitive shapes – Or, you are trying to convert an object that has too many faces.

I used the sphere 3d one, and I put it at 32 by 33 like it said in your tutorial, then all I did was raise the face of the surface a bit, I did all it said to do, at least I think hehe, I have windows vista could that be a problem?

Hi! It looks like Veoh is not available in my country, Argentina (whatever that means). Is there a YouTube version of this tutorial? Thanks!
Des Plante wrote on August 29th, 2008 at 1:55 pm
HI Des: Yes, I’ve discovered that Veoh was a bad decision on my part – I didn’t realize they are so short sighted as to deny access to many international viewers. I am going back to posting all of my vids on Blip.tv. Don’t like YouTube for most of my vids because of length, filesize, and quality issues.
This video is available on Blip.tv here:

if you have clicked the make polymesh more than once which is what im suspecting as having screwed my object is there any way of recovering it as 4 hours of modelling later the object not converting is a damn nightmare and yes the object did start out as correctly initialised sphere3D, im on the verge of wanting to jump of a cliff with this one is there anyway to get round this ?

I have the same proble running sculpty maker on Windows 7. It launches fine but freezes after I select my obj file for conversion. Was going to try a few things with the compatibility settings tonight to see if I get it fixed up.

Just realised what order these comments are in – I may have polymeshed one to many times too – more tests tonight. :)
