Looking for something wonderful to see in SL? Check out Lem Skall’s photostream on Fickr. Not only does he find some really fabulous builds, he captures them with lush, rich colors and a great eye for composition. He usually includes the SURL so you can go see the site in person, too. Really beautiful work.

If you ever hear from a friend, “The graphics in Second Life are so ugly.”, just point them at Lem’s photos and they will have no choice but to change their mind.

Thanks for the mention and for the positive comments. I would say though that while SL graphics are mostly hampered by poor windlight settings (defaults especially are terrible) they are nevertheless below the state-of-the-art. It is hard though to make it better with user-generated content.
HI Lem. yeah, I wish it were easier to share Windlight settings. The default ones are pretty boring – sort of least common denominator for the folks who were resistant to the switch to Windlight, I think. I like toying with the settings, but so far it is way to hard to share those settings.
SL’s graphic capabilities are certainly not state of the art, but I do feel that they are always improving. Flexiprims, Windlight, and sculpted prims have really changed what’s possible – and content creators are constantly squeezing even more amazing things out of the tools that are available.
