I’m psyched for the upcoming Mesh Import feature in Second Life. I think it’ll transform our virtual world – having even more of a visual impact than Sculpted Prims. I really know nothing about the specifics of how LL will implement the feature but I do know that the more I learn about 3D modelling, the more I am frustrated but the limitations of the Sculpty. Latest word is that the Mesh object import feature will be in Beta testing withing the next month or so.
For me, SL has always been about exploring the available tools – learning what can be done with a prim, pushing it to the edges, seeing what’s possible within the limitations imposed on our virtual world. The ability to create 3D objects with fewer restrictions can only mean shinier stuff for us all. (^_^)
It’s been pretty slow around this site, at least as far as new content is concerned, but things should pick up when Meshes arrive. I’ll be exploring the techniques involved with using zBrush for Mesh import and sharing my discoveries with you via new tutorials and more frequent postings.
I’m also gonna do me best to organize the info that’s on Shiny Life already. There are still over a hundered avatars a day coming to this site for info on zBrush, sculpted prims, and Second Life Building tips but some of the info here can be hard to find.
In the meantime, if you have any good tips, tricks, or websites to share with your fellow SL residents, please feel free to post them in the comments here. Via la SL!
