I’m very excited to be hosting a new build by my friend Snowy Hoobinoo. I discovered his wonderful creations on Flickr and immediately started pestering him in-world for more examples. I also asked if he’d be interesting in creating something on my new sim, Sunset Myst. Thankfully he agreed and has created an awe inspiring valley full of out-of-this-world plants.

We’re having an opening celebration tomorrow ( Wednesday Jan 14th) at 2pm SL time. Come by to see the sights, meet Snowy, and revel in the possibilities of SL art. Click here to teleport to Hoobinoo Valley.

Niko Donburi will be be performing tomorrow, and he has big plans for the event. From the press release:

“Niko Donburi, better known as the “Weird Al” of Second Life, will be holding what is being called the largest live music event ever held in Linden Research, Inc.’s virtual world. Niko’s debut of his second collection of satirical songs about Second Life will be streamed to parcels of land located on more than 400 individual sims, or Second Life regions. The parcels are part of the virtual ‘Arbor Project’ – a movement to thwart the increasing commercialization of Second Life by planting virtual trees on small parcels of land throughout the main grid.”

Catch the show tomorrow, Sunday 11/9 at 6pm SL time on the Barcelona del Oeste sim.

Niko is also encouraging people to “take snapshots, video capture, audio capture, tweet, blog or do anything else creative to capture the mood.” All of these contributions will be mixed into a collaborative machinima for one of these new songs.

If you can’t attend the show you can catch a live video feed of Niko’s performance right here on Shiny Life. we’ll be in-world broadcasting the show via ustream.tv See you at the show!

The weekend is approaching quickly – wow what a quick week – and I am scheduling another Collabricate session. Come on by this Saturday the 6th at 11am SL time for another experiment in interactive, collaborative building. This week’s theme is: Mother Nature.

I think we might try a new structured experiment this time in addition to the freeform doodling. I’ve been thinking of ways that we might remove some of the ‘taboo’ of working on other people’s objects by injecting a few rules into a build. For instance we might try working on a piece where everyone gets a turn to add or change something. A bit like the Exquisite Cadaver game used by surrealist and Dada artists.

Remember that all skill levels are welcome, you can even come by to spectate if ya like. See ya there. :)

A quick reminder that we’ll be Collabricating today at 11am SLT. :)  Come on by and join the experiment. The theme today is Circles.

“What I’d like to do is set up a regular event where people are encouraged to create together in a positive, free form environment. We’ll pick a theme, start building, and see what comes into being. Who knows, we might even learn something in the process. :) All skills levels will be welcome. All that you need to bring are your building, scripting, texturing, and other skills along with a willingness to cooperate and interact.”

I’ve set up a Collabricate group so that we can share what we are building on without fussing around with the friends list. IM me (Vlad Bjornson) for an invite or a TP to the event. See ya there. :)
